Google has enhanced its GrandCentral service, offering Google Voice as part of the company’s strategy to dominate the telephony market. Google voice integrates landlines and mobile numbers into one phone number. The service includes voicemail and free domestic calls. Users can also copy out voice mails and enable conferencing call options.
Google said in a blog, "The new application improves the way you use your phone. You can get transcripts of your voicemail and archive and search all the text messages you send and receive. You can also use the service to make low-priced international calls and easily access Goog-411 directory assistance. "
The search firm’s step is deemed to take on other telephony providers. However, it will also influence conventional providers by extending free services constituting a vital part of their revenue streams.
Grandcentral was acquired by Google in July 2007. Current users of the service can use Google Voice right away and new users can subscribe in the next few weeks.
