VOIP on iPhone Vetoed in Germany
The Higher Regional Court in Hamburg, Germany banned VoiP application for Apple's iPhone as requested by T-Mobile. The app, dubbed as Sipgate, is alleged of iniquitous business practices to drag T-mobile customers away from its own services.T-Mobile has previously issued a cease and desist order to the VoiP provider, however, Sipgate decided to contest and even stated that T-Mobile was deluding its consumers by not informing them it offers a limited service without VoiP, IM and VPN usage. Consequently, the regional court concurred with Sipgate and ordered T-Mobile to stop advertising iPhone plans as "open internet access with unlimited data".
Sipgate is a Voice over IP service provider based in Germany and also operating in Austria and the United Kingdom. Their service offers free calls to other IP phones, chargeable calls to landlines and mobiles and free geographical and non-geographical incoming phone numbers.
