iPhone Soon to Feature VoIP Enhancements

Global IP Solutions has confirmed it will help iPhone developers in adding VoiceEngine Mobile technology to the unit. The VoiceEngine will have access to GIPS-developed codecs, the wideband iSAC and the narrowband, Internet-optimized iLBC codec. GIPS VoiceEngine Mobile is a comprehensive, packaged solution specifically designed for Mobile applications. It handles all the necessary voice components for VoIP, providing superior voice quality even under adverse network conditions.
VoiceEngine Mobile will only work on Wi-Fi hotspots due to Apple's agreement with its exclusive U.S. carrier AT&T. Apple claims that any VoIP solution running on 3G would be in violation of its exclusivity deal with AT&T.
Voice-over-Internet protocol (VOIP) is a protocol optimized for the transmission of voice through the Internet or other packet-switched networks.
