Security Companies Warn of Email Worm

Littlefish News

Different IT companies are warning IT services users that there is a new Internet worm threatening their IT security. The virus is spreading fast through email and according to IT security company McAfee, the subject line of the email is "Here you have" and it contains links to what it claims to be Adobe PDF documents or a free porn film. McAfee said that "The URL does not actually lead to a PDF document, but rather an executable in disguise, such as PDF_Document21_025542010_pdf.scr served from a different domain. When run, the virus installs itself to the Windows directory as CSRSS.EXE (not to be confused with the valid CSRSS.EXE file within the Windows System directory). Once infected, the worm attempts to send the aforementioned message to email address book recipients. It can also spread through accessible remote machines, mapped drives, and removable media via Autorun replication." The good news is that McAfee and Symantec released tools for dealing with the worm.
