Facebook Removes Italian Neo-Nazi Pages

Social networking site Facebook has opted to take out pages posted by neo-Nazis to stir up violence. Facebook's move came subsequent to allegations made by European politicians that it is promoting racism.

The website accounted seven pages made for fostering aggression towards gypsies. Facebook claims the pages were already removed due to violations of its terms of use.

The gypsy community in Italy, also known as Roma, has been under fire in recent months and the county's media has been grilling the group for committing various crimes. European parliamentarians and several Catholic groups have openly  mauled Roma for alleged demonization of an ethnic group which, like the Jews, was subject to mass killings in Nazi Germany.

Shimon Samuels of the Jewish human rights group the Simon Wiesenthal Center suggests that Facebook should find ways to  dissuade "hate speech."

Samuels noted, "It's not a new thing -- it's happened before, it's even happened before on Facebook. We are not surprised this group of really marginal Italian neo-Nazis have taken advantage of it.
