Because of a court edict
IT company Microsoft has needed to use
IT Support in order to release a patch for its Office 2007
IT product. Custom XML editing capabilities are no longer available the Office 2007 programs. "The following patch is required for the United States," Microsoft wrote in a message on its
internet site.
Besides having to stop selling Office 2007 programs until January 11, Microsoft got a big fine of 290 million dollars. The court decision on Tuesday was because the Office 2007
software infringes on a patent held by a Canadian company. This means versions of Word that can open documents saved in the .XML, .DOCX, or .DOCM formats that contain custom XML can't be sold by the software giant.
