Microsoft Introduces New Version of Hyper-V R2

Littlefish News

Microsoft has launched the final parts of Hyper-V Server 2008 R2, the standalone edition of its Hyper-v virtualisation product for x64 systems.   The latest version offers Live Migration and High Availability at no additional cost. Live Migration was built to enable IT support administrators to move their virtual machines to a different server as well as turn off the physical server and conduct system maintenance. All of these functionalities are done without any downtime at all, Microsoft claims.   “For example, suppose someone accidentally unplugs the wrong power cable on a server,” Jeff Wolsey from Microsoft said.   “The virtual machine on the server that just unexpectedly went down will automatically restart on another node without any user intervention.”   The new Hyper-V Server version also features Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) for better storage management. It allows multiple virtual machines to run from a single LUN.
