Users of a McAfee IT product had some very serious problems because of the fact that the anti-virus made their PCs completely unusable. This problem needed IT Support in order to get resolved very quickly by the team of IT engineers that work at the IT company. On Wednesday, from 2 pm GMT, the product started causing some major problems to enterprise customers by pushing out DAT 5958 to users of VirusScan Enterprise. The problem was that the virus definition wrongly sees a Windows file as wrong, shuts down the PC and when users try to restart them, the PCs can't load Windows. The head of infrastructure IT security for a worldwide IT firm said that "We support customers' platforms, and it means we are currently unable to do that. Basically, our engineers are currently unable to work." When asked to comment on the situation, McAfee said that McAfee teams are working with the highest priority to support impacted customers and plan to provide an update virus definition file shortly. McAfee apologizes for any inconvenience to our customers."
