Malware Attacks Peak in July

Scansafe, a security provider, has disclosed that the number of malware it blocked in July 2008 was 34 per cent more than in the whole of 2007.  The first two weeks of July recorded more than 87% more than the malware blocked the previous month.  Scansafe also revealed that 83% of the malware they have detected came from counterfeit websites.

The whopping growth is attributed to SQL injection attacks which were accountable for 75% of the blocks. Scansafe said that most of the SQL injection attacks were associated with Asprox botnet. Social engineering email scams also highly contributed to the major spike in malicious attacks on July.  According to Scansafe, a record high of 95% of its customers fell for these scams.

The alarming increase in malware attacks can still be altered if users ensure complete security in their computers.
