AVG Antivirus Link Scanner Spews out fake traffic

Bundled with AVG's newest Anti Virus engine, AVG 8 comes with Link Scanner used by over 20 million people worldwide. Link Scanner checks for viruses and malware before you click on them. So if you enter your keyword into Google it visits all the sites returned on the page by Google even if you dont click on them, causing webmasters to deal with enormous spikes in traffic.
Link Scanner mimics the IP addresses of these users and even uses the same agent as Microsoft’s IE6.

While this is causing a major problem for webmasters, AVG are keeping their cards close to thier chest as they are worried talk of a fix may leave the service open to black hat tactics.

AVG have promised a fix but until then webmasters must try and cleanup reams of fake data.
