According to a survey by Cyber-Ark, more than 66 percent of IT support staff are sneaking into their employer’s private data.
The survey results showed that majority of these workers use their administration rights to gain access to classified information held by their company. Cyber-Ark polled 400 IT administrators, where 35 percent admitted to have misused their admin priveleges.
Among the data being accessed are HR records, customer databases, merger and acquisition (M&A) schemes, list of laid off employees, and marketing information.
The survey further revealed the significant increase in IT workers who would risk taking proprietary data if they were axed. This includes financial reports, chief executives’ passwords, and research and development strategies. Customer databases, email server admin profiles and password files were also among the classified information cited in the survey.
