Microsoft Forewarns of Recession Email Scams

According to Microsoft executive Tim Cranton, internet crooks may take advantage of the recent worldwide economic condition through sending bogus emails offering mortgages, loans, or money from failed banks.

Cranton said he sees early signs of online financial scams and it's significantly unsettling that criminals are using the vulnerability of individuals in this tough economic times. Internet offenders defraud their victims through promising easy money. Common scams include financial solicitations from developed countries, and a lottery winning that involves a huge amount of money once victims shell out for an administration fee.

A Microsoft poll revealed that over  25 percent of computer users believe they would be potential preys of an online scam that would cost them money. About 50 percent said the scams made them more cautious over online shopping and over 33 percent admitted they are now hesitant to surf the web. However, the poll indicated that the real chances of being preyed by internet fraudsters are slimmer than the identifed risks.

Littlefish IT support suggests that users should be very cautious when it comes to unknown emails involving money.  The worldwide financial downturn has triggered more people to employ desperate tactics to survive; thus extorting on the more vulnerable and rash individuals.
