Women in IT Focus on Career Over Family

A study participated by 1,795 male and female IT support staff, concluded that more and more women in the IT industry have opted to delay motherhood to advance their careers in a world dominated by men. Their efforts, however, go mostly unrewarded as technical men have nearly three times more potential to grab an executive position than women.
Among the respondents of the survey, one-third of mid-level technical women admitted they have put off pregnancy to attain their professional goals. In addition, nine percent of the participants said they have decided against pursuing motherhood to concentrate on their careers. This is way too high compared to the 3.5 percent of men who admitted to have skipped having kids for their job.
Despite all efforts, women are still being passed up for promotions mainly because some men see them as less technically capable. Women are stereotyped as not-so technically proficient compared to men. AS a consequence of this perception, they are mostly assigned to simple tasks with low visibility. Women's lack of prominence in their firms make it harder for them to snatch a top-ranking position. Another thing attributed to women's lack of success in the IT industry is a workplace culture that recompenses self-promotion, confidence, and determination where men are mostly seen to excel.
