According to two researchers at the University of Maryland, foreign IT professionals working in the US are paid more than domestic workers. Of the 50, 000 IT experts polled, a vast majority of migrant employees are receiving five to nine percent higher pay than US staff.
"There was no downward pressure on the pay of U.S. citizens. The new research dispels findings of some other studies that assert H-1B and other foreign workers are paid less than American IT professionals. These other studied often use salary data from Labor Condition Applications, or LCAs,” one of the researcher Sunil Mithas said.
“However, analysis of pay data from LCAs, which employers file with the U.S. Department of Labor, do not reflect differences in education, experience levels, and other factors among workers,” Mithas added.
One of the factors causing foreign IT pros to get a rather fat paycheck is their IT experience and education levels. The research further showed that non-citizen IT experts who have permanent residency in the US gross the highest premium.
