Various privacy groups have requested the Information Commissioner’s Office to shut down Google’s Street View offering. The service, they say, leaves room for criminals to identify people shown in Street View images even with their faces and license plates blurred.
Privacy International’s director Simon Davies said, "We’re asking for the system to be switched off while an investigation is completed. The Information Commissioner never grasped the gravity of how a benign piece of legislation could affect ordinary lives."
The ICO promises it will on the request in the forthcoming days. Google, on the other hand, remains confident that the ICO will rule on their favor.
Google Street View is a feature of Google Maps and Google Earth that provides 360° horizontal and 290° vertical panoramic views of streets throughout the globe. It was launched on 2007, and is continuously being expanded, displaying more cities and more streets within theses cities.
