IT Providers Fail to Adopt Low Carbon Economy, Study Says

A study facilitated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Gartner revealed that majority of IT services organizations are reluctant to embrace low carbon economy.
The study was participated by 24 global ICT providers who were assessed whether they had created environmental offerings for customers. Among the participants, only four fared well in all five sections of the study. Fujitsu, BT, HP and IBM have fully-established long-term ecological strategies to lessen their own impact. All four companies have also generated schemes to innovate novel products to aid other businesses.
Furthermore, the survey revealed that most ICT managers rarely have a general greenhouse gas (GHG) target which is considered to be a key driving policy. Among the companies who were found to be deficient of such target are Nokia, Google, Ericsson, Nortel, Cisco, SAP and Wipro.
Simon Mingay, research vice president at Gartner, said, "An overall GHG target is one of the most basic requirements of a climate change programme, and without it organisations should be sceptical about a provider’s overall climate change programme."
