Microsoft to Update OCS 2007

Microsoft will be releasing an update to its unified communications software supporting unified communications software. The update is slated for distribution.

OCS 2007 is an enterprise real-time communications server, providing the infrastructure to allow instant messaging, presence, audio-video conferencing and web conferencing functionality. It features  instant messaging and presence within a single organization. This includes support for rich presence information, file transfer, instant messaging as well as voice and video communication.

Its R2 version will have VoIP capabilities intended for "nomadic" workers or those who usually work on the road. This will be part of the Office Communicator for Mobile feature which incorporates various cohesive communications features. When users call through R2 VoIP service, it would appear as though they are calling from the office. 

In addition, users will be able to check the status of of people's Web presence on Office Communicator on some mobile phones like Nokia S40, Motorola Razr, Blackberry devices. Nokia S60 series units will have this capability six months following R2's release. Other features include the ability to host dial-in telephone conferences that can combine Web-conferencing and videoconferencing features using the Office Communicator client and to share desktops while in remote conferences.
