Wi-Fi Now Regarded as a Channel for Unsecured Data

According to Global Secure Systems, Wi-fi is no longer safe enough to be transmitted with classified data. WPA and WPA2 encryption systems now have a bigger possibility of being breached.
David Hobson, managing director of GSS, maintains that firms can't view standards-based WiFi transmission and that business organizations are required to use VPN in accordance to the Data Protection Act.
Hobson further stated, “This breakthrough in brute force decryption of WiFi signals by Elcomsoft confirms our observations that firms can no longer rely on standards-based security to protect their data. As a result, we now advise clients using WiFi in their offices to move on up to a VPN encryption system as well."
He also said in a statement, “Brute force decryption of the WPA and WPA2 systems using parallel processing has been on the theoretical possibilities horizon for some time - and presumably employed by relevant government agencies in extreme situations - but the use of the latest NVidia cards to speedup decryption on a standard PC is extremely worrying."
Wi-Fi is a wireless technology widely used in home networks, mobile phones, video games and other electronic devices that require some form of wireless networking capability. Its main purpose is to provide wireless access to digital content. It originally uses Wired Equivalent Privacy or WEP as an encryption system. This system, however, has been shown to be easily breakable. Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA and WPA2) were deployed to resolve privacy issues and as a replacement of WEP, but it seems that cyberattackers have even found new ways to breach these systems.
