Sophos, an IT company ran the report which named and shamed India as the number one country for sending out the largest proportion of spam e-mails. Sophos showed that more than 9% of the spam sent out across the web either passed through a PC in India or came directly from there.The rapid growth of India as a spam nation has been accelerated as the country has gained increased access to the web, this has meant they over took the US for the top spot in a very short period of time. A second factor is that the Indian public are poorly equipped to protect themselves and many public PCs are being attacked by viruses which then convert their machine into a spamming machine, sending out thousands of e-mails every day to mailing lists.Businesses today require a good and proactive anti spam and IT Security policy to tackle the growing volume of spam that we are subjected to every day. The control of Spam is essential as the costs, such as loss of productivity and fraud is suffered by both the public and Internet services providers.
