The Chinese government has delayed the implementation of the controversial filtering legislation to give PC vendors enough time to lay the groundwork.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology previously set the deadline for Green Dam compliance on July 1. The new date is not announced as of yet.
The mandated integration of Green Dam filtering tool with PC systems sparked criticisms from vendors and other groups across the globe. The US government even asked China to reconsider the legislation. However, the Chinese government claims Green Dam is designed to block pornographic content. Analysts and privacy groups think otherwise, saying the software could be used to spy on individuals surfing the web.
