Based on the report released by Mobile World Congress, about half of mobile phone manufacturers reported several security issues last year. These issues include malware infections, voice or text spam attacks and other security incidents.
According to Mobile Security Report 2009, around 70 percent of celphone makers think that mobile security plays a great role in their future. Most of these companies emphasize on device protection as a significant step to battle security breaches.
Victor Kouznetsov, senior vice president of McAfee Mobile Security, said, "Attempts to make the mobile ecosystem more open have shown early signs of success, yet attacks on mobile networks and devices continue to grow in complexity and sophistication."
Mobile manufacturers claim that the cost of patching and fixing compromised devices greatly affected their business. Furthermore, the report found that 81 percent of manufacturers are stewed about mobile payments. Another 69 percent don’t think security application installation is the safest way to combat security problems.
