Mozilla is planning to add just two more updates for Firefox 2.0 before it finally tosses the browser out of the market by year end.
Based on Mozilla’s policy, the company only supports a browser for six months after it has been replaced by a newer version. Firefox 3.0 was introduced in mid-June, barely leaving two months prior to its predecessor’s retirement.
Mike Beltzner, the director of Firefox, expressed that most of the Firefox 2.0 users have upgraded to its latest version. Beltzner added, "Presently two-thirds of our users are using Firefox 3, with more than 50% accepting the first major upgrade offer back in late August."
Firefox 3.0 was officially released on June 17, 2008. It is purported to have fixed various bugs, and has an enhanced standard compliance. In addition, it features new web APIs and a redesigned download manager. "Places" system was also added for storing bookmarks and history as well as separate themes for different operating systems.
