Google Phone Embedded With a Critical Bug
A team from Independent Security Evaluators (ISE) has revealed that T-Mobile's G1 smartphone has a critical bug in Android operating system which could be exploited by hackers. According to its leading researcher, Charlie Miller, the phone has a buffer overflow bug which can be used by conning G1 users to visit malicious sites.Miller was immediately contacted by Google for further information about the vuln and was asked to stay mum about the issue until a patch is created. However, the researcher opted to disclose the existence of the bug but promised not to divulge any significant detail.
Based on the warning posted in the ISE website, the flaw is entrenched in one of the 80 distinct open-source packages employed by Google to build Android. Miller attibuted the vuln to Google's deployment of outmoded code. The precise open-source package in question was not identified.
