European Trade Unions Gripe Over HP Retrenchments

Various trade unions throughout Europe have expressed their dissent over HP's plans to retrench thousands of its employees worldwide.
HP is planning to cut around 3,400 jobs in the UK as a part of its company streamlining. The computer maker also plans to slash 24,000 jobs, resulting from its acquisition of EDS.
According to Peter Skyte, national officer at UK union Unite, they have scheduled a “co-ordinated day of union activities” on November 13. Meanwhile, a four-hour strike took place on all EDS sites in Italy as well as protest rallies in front of local headquarters in Rome, Milan and Rosselsheim in Germany.
