The hacking group D33DS has claimed to be behind the attack which led to the IT security breach, revealing over 400,000 passwords linked to the gmail.com, yahoo.com and sol.com e-mail addresses. The IT company Impervia, a security firm has said that it believes that personal details such as names, dates of birth and home addresses including postcodes may have also been compromised. At the time of the attack Yahoo did not notify users that an error had been detected and several hours later there was still no warning put up on the site. Yahoo did however post a statement later which announced they were looking into claims about a security compromise and that all users should remember to update their passwords regularly. At present the mechanism through which the attack was initiated has not been established. It was originally believed that the problem originated in the telephony service- known as Yahoo Voices which was a user- generated section of the site, but this has not yet been confirmed by Yahoo.
