Google To Face Trial in Italy
Google To Face Trial in Italy
Four Google executives will be tried in Italy on Tuesday for defamation and failure to control personal data. The trial was originally set on February, but was shelved several times. The issue started when a video clip was posted on Google Video displaying a Down's Syndrome victim being blustered by four classmates.
As stipulated in the European Union legislation, internet service providers should not be held liable for not monitoring third party contents. However, ISPs are expected to discard the contents if they receive complaints.
Although Google tried to remove the contents after receiving complaints, Italian prosecutors arestill claiming that the firm is an ISP which has violated the Italian law. Google executives facing 36 months in jail include global privacy counsel Peter Fleischer, chief legal officer David Drummond, former chief financial officer George Reyes and former Google Video European director Arvind Desikan.
