London Declared Twitter Capital

London Declared Twitter CapitalCEO and co-found of Twitter Evan Williams proclaimed London as the Twitter capital in the world. On the other hand, UK trailed on second place in terms of user volume. The US got the top spot.

Williams revealed in his interview at BBC’s Newsnighht show how Twitter  “exploded”  in the UK, with London accumulating most of the site’s traffic. The top exec further denied allegations that Twitter creates a false sense of community.

"It’s not false, it allows people to communicate and is no less false than using the phone,” Williams explained.

When asked by Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark if Twitter stalled technical work to keep the site operational, Williams said, "We did delay some technical work. That was something we did working with our network provider.”

"And we had scheduled maintenance that would have been during the middle of the night and off-peak hours for us but it would have been during a very key time in Iran.  We ended up putting that off by a day so that it was it was more in the middle of the night there."
