Littlefish News

An attack on IT company 123-Reg meant that for many clients webpages were offline. 123- Reg stated that there was an attack on the DNS servers which meant users experience problems with loading of initial pages and accessing e-mails. It is believed that the attack came from China and 123- Reg stated that they were struck by "a massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack" from the country. The IT security attack started at 11.06am and was contained in the first 15 minutes. As the largest provider of domains in the UK, 123- Reg has in place an IT support team working 24*7 who act to monitor and address threats for this. As such once detected all affected client sites were moved across very quickly. There was no threat of personal details being lost in this attack. The threat came from people dependant on- line booking and advertising losing money as their sites were offline.
