A study by IT company Gartners in July 2011 showed that an estimated 144 million users were working on the Professional XP system and since the announcement on the 8th April 2012 that the operating system will only be supported for the next two years the message is clear. Move away from the old OS as soon as possible. After distrust from users regarding the initial release of Vista, and a couple of stumbling blocks were experienced while trying to convinced XP users to upgrade to the new OS, Microsoft ensured that 10 years after its release XP was still supported and released the third service pack. Some businesses are ahead of the game and have already started the migration away from XP. Some others plan to wait until the release of Windows 8 later this year and plan to skip the Vista and Windows 7 Oss altogether. The last group of users are those who will retain the product long after the IT support has been withdrawn. For the latter group they are risking using a system which will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information. For businesses this is not a workable option.
