02- has claimed that the network problems which left hundreds of thousands of customers without voice and data connections for periods of time up to 24 hours are now fixed. They have apologised for the inconvenience cause and suggested that anyone still experiencing problems should try turning their phone off and on again. The cause if the fault not been explicitly confirmed but the signs suggest that the likely cause was a software failure. 02 have said that the problem was based in one of their network systems which meant some mobile phone numbers were not registering correctly on their network. This also explained why the GiffGaff and Tesco mobile services which user 02s mobile masts were also affected. The failure of the IT services has been blamed on the IT company Ericsson, who have been partnered with 02 since 2009, the affected database was the Ericsson one. There are rumours that 02 has taken their eye off the ball and have chosen to forgo the maintain of their 2G and 3G systems in favour of racing forward with the 4G services they are hoping to release in a years time.
