UK Internet Ad Spending Surges at 20 Percent
The Internet Advertising Bureau says that UK's expenditures on internet advertising swelled 21 percent in the first six months of this year. The report concluded that Britain spent 1.68 billion pounds ($2.95 billion) more than the previous year. The overall market, on the other hand, declined 0.7 percent. It could have been 4.6 percent if not for the fast progress of the internet.
Analysts think that online advertising is more engaging as companies are compelled to track if consumers click through their ads on the web. The boost in internet spending comes in contradiction with the worlwide economic downturn.
IAB's Guy Philipson said, "Online is not immune from the economic downturn, but while other sectors see falls in expenditure the Internet is still experiencing an incredible increase and is propping up the entire advertising market. The growth in Internet advertising spend is beating all expectations as advertisers look to maximize their budgets, and take advantage of new display advertising formats such as video."
Philipson also added that Britain's internet advertising expenditures could exceed 3.2 billion pounds in 2008.
