Orkut Blocks Community Underwriting Indian Terrorists

Orkut, Google's social networking site has thwarted access to a community on the site that clearly promotes Indian terrrorism. The community is purported to be an advocate of Indian Mujahideen, the terrorist group who took responsibility for several explosions in some areas in India including Delhi.


The "Indian Mujahideen Fan Club" is an official account in the social networking site. Google denounces any act supporting illegal activities, terrorism, or violence. The company constantly checks profiles on Orkut that may possibly be violating its terms of service and takes appropriate action against known violators. Google has decided to block the community at the request of some users.

Orkut is designed to help users meet new friends and maintain existing relationships. It is the most visited web site in Brazil and second most visited site in India where the site is often targeted by various groups opposing the government or promoting terrorism.
