Microsoft Teams Up with Move Networks
Microsoft took another strategic step to expand its reach to video streaming technology. The company invested an undisclosed sum roughly five months after announcing it would support Move Network's video streaming technology within its own cross-browser video platform, Silverlight. In return, Move will support Windows Server-based encoding, Microsoft video-compression technology (codecs), and Silverlight's digital rights management (DRM).With the Olympics over (NBC’s video was all Silverlight, although not powered by Move), Microsoft is now focusing on the Democratic Convention Website, where Move will help to distribute the HD streams in Silverlight. Meanwhile Move furbishes its reputation for high-quality delivery gained through deals with ABC, Discovery, Fox and others.
