Microsoft Renounces Hiring Freeze

Microsoft denies allegations of setting up a hiring freeze despite reports that some employees received a note stating the company's move to re-evaluate its staff levels and to halt workforce recruitment.

A Microsoft spokesman, Lou Gellos, said, "It is not true that we have instituted a hiring freeze. What is true is that we are evaluating hiring as we always do and we might make projections that are different than perhaps we had at the beginning of the year."

Gellos added that Microsoft is anticipating a huge boost in manpower and will be employing lots of people.  He also claims he is unaware of such memo sent to Microsoft employees; however,it is possible that individual departments have sent a note to some workers.

Microsoft employs more than 91,000 workers throughout the world, with over 54,000 in the U.S. The company rarely had employee retrenchments in more than 30 years regardless of global economic status.
