Google Backs Yahoo Ad Deal Despite Reproach
Google has declared its support over the proposed advertising deal with Yahoo amidst criticisms from various advertisers. The deal received numerous censures as it is seen to be a threat to web advertising. Right after the agreement was announced, the Association of National Advertisers and the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) filed a complaint against the deal at the US Department of Justice. Another call to look into the impending merger was made to the European Commission's Competition Directorate and the Competition Bureau of Canada.
Google maintains that the deal will boost online advertising cost. Tim Armstrong, Google's president of advertising and commerce in North America, said, Neither Google nor Yahoo set ad prices. Ads are priced by an auction where an advertiser only bids what an ad is worth to them." In addition, Google claims that the team up will help advertisers acquire more pertinent ads on Yahoo.
