EU Set to Assess Yahoo-Google Ad Deal

The EU Competition Commission has announced its plan to scrutinize the ad deal between Yahoo and Google.

Under the deal, the two huge companies will merge their instant messenging systems. Yahoo said the Google ad deal signifies a revenue opportunity of as much as $800 million a year, and $250 million to $450 million in annual operating cash flow.

Google has decided to delay the agreement to give the US Department of Justice an ample time to understand the deal.  In July, DOJ launched a formal investigation prompted by the complaints filed by a group of advertisers. Now, both companies have to worry about the EU probe, apart from the inquiry done by DOJ.  This could also become a formal investigation depending on what the EU regulators find.
