Video sharing website YouTube is trying to ban video submissions featuring guns and knives in an effort to ease the growing deification of gang and gun culture in the UK.

The move came to light amidst the investigation facilitated by "The Times" on its failure to properly monitor videos uploaded in the website. The Google-owned website has opted to only introduce the ban in the UK.

YouTube's decision was well received by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith. She even encouraged other websites to take the same lead.

YouTube has become hugely popular for displaying a wide variety of user-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips and music videos, as well as amateur content such as videoblogging and short original videos. It has been often criticized  for failing to warrant that its online content abides by the copyright law.
