US Launches New Cyber Security System, Focuses on Privacy
The US government has launched a pilot program that would ensure its cyberinfratructure security, while maintaining the privacy of of the public. The program, dubbed as Einstein 3, was previously slated for launching on February, but was held off as final touches were made to ensure its efficiency.
Einstein 3 has been widely criticized by privacy groups because of NSA’s involvement. The agency will administer the electronic intelligence gathering, which most critics see as dominance of US spy organizations.
According to some government sources, the program may use the technology of NSA, but the Department of Homeland and Security will act as the administrator. Monitoring will be restricted to government systems only. Einstein 3 will be used in detecting and thwarting intrusions, and not to snoop around private individuals, the government assured.
