Britain uncovered its new biometric identity card which is aimed to help its fight against illegal immigration and terrorism.
The ID scheme will be the very first of its kind after it was eradicated following the World War Two. Britain spent millions of pounds over the project despite growing criticisms from several sectors. Some critics find it a suppression of their civil freedom. Both major opposition parties have also declared to scrap the cards once they win power.
The scheme initially required foreign nationals from outside the European Economic Area to have the the ID card. The government, however, has decided to expand its coverage and Britons will also be compelled to use the card over the next few years.
