UK Prime Minister Refutes Three Strikes Proposal

The British Prime Minister has repudiated allegations of developing a  three strikes proposal for P2P users.

The Prime Minister posted a blog claiming the government is not pressuring ISP's to monitor P2P users. However, he did not clearly deny that he played a big role in releasing the "Memorandum of Understanding" which noted the government's aim to reduce unlawful filesharing in the UK. This still implies that P2P users are being spied on by their ISPs.

Some analysts believe that the Prime Minister's statements regarding the matter is quite misleading. Earlier this year, six UK ISPs have already opted to use filtering technologies to deter piracy on their networks in conformity with the government's mandate. In addition, a government letter was leaked revealing UK's plan to cut internet policy by 80 percent. In light of these developments, critics think that the Prime Minister's denial on the proposal highly contradicts with the actions currently taken by the government against illegal filesharers.
