Two Facebook Fans Discovered a Way to View Private Profiles
Two Facebook bloggers revealed the possibility of viewing user information that are set as private by account owners. The flaw allows non-friends to access personal data of other users. In their blog posting, the pair said, "With a simple hack, everything listed in a person's 'Basic Information' section can be viewed, no matter what their privacy settings are. This information includes networks, sex, birthday, hometown, siblings, parents, relationship status, interested in, political views and religious views."
Both hackers did not fully disclose how they managed to exploit the flaw, but they assured more details will be revealed over the next few days. Several security analysts said the hack may not allow criminals to spread malware, but this could lure identity thieves.
Symantec Security Response group product manager said, "You can't consider the information up there totally trusted and private. I think people need to think twice about the information they put out there."
