Survey Says Teens Love Casual Hacking
A survey from Panda Security revealed that teens hack just for fun. Of the 4,000 polled, about 20 percent admitted they know of advanced internet-distributed hacking tools. Around 33 percent of these teens said they have used these tools at least on one instance.Nearly 66 percent of the group affirmed they have successfully hacked instant messaging or social network accounts of friends or anyone they know. What's even alarming is the 20 percent who confirmed they have posted sensitive images or videos of friends on the web.
The disturbing numbers are attributed to the curiosity gnawing teenagers these days. Of those surveyed, 86 percent said they hack just to nose around people who catch their interest.
PandaLabs technical director Luis Corrons said, "We should encourage young people to use the Internet as a channel for personal development, teaching them to use it in a healthy and responsible fashion. It is important to help them avoid participating in dubious activities which are made all the easier thanks to the anonymity afforded by the web."
The survey, however, does not connote the inclination of teens to resort to illegal activities on the net.
