New Industry Group Battles Piracy

A group of technology giants have been in a massive campaign against piracy dissuading the consumers from supporting illegal file sharing.


Arts+Labs, as the group is known, includes Viacom, NBC Universal,the Songwriters Guild of America,  Microsoft, AT&T and Cisco Systems. All of these companies have exerted a lot of efforts to combat illegal sharing of music and content. The group's other objective is to rehash on spam, malware and computer viruses to consumers , though  its main concern right now is to educate the public on the impact of advocating towards illicit copying of contents.



Arts+Labs has a web site that promotes legit download sites such as Netflix, Veoh  Networks, Blockbuster's Movielink; Joost, Microsoft's Xbox live among others. The group is co-chaired by Mike McCurry, former press secretary to U.S. President Bill Clinton and Mark McKinnon, who has been an advisor to Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
