IT pro Adam Laurie managed to hack a new identity card in by simply using a laptop and a Nokia mobile phone. Laurie cloned the card, putting different data in the fake copy. The card used was an issue to a foreign national, which made it more alarming.
With his expertise, Laurie effortlessly altered the information on the clone. The tampered data include name, physical data, and fingerprints, among other information.
The national identity cards will have similar technology used in foreign national cards. UK citizens will be required to use the card effective next year.
A representative from the Home Office slammed the data breach and claimed that there was “no evidence” showing personal information could be accessed or changed. He also noted that national cards have “excellent” security.
