Network Brute Force Attacks Proliferating
According to a report from network management company Arbor Networks, brute force attack is fast becoming a trend in the internet arena today.A brute force attack is a way of defeating a cryptographic scheme by methodically attempting a large number of possibilities. Various networks reported attacks of a maximum of 40 Gbps last year, which is way higher than the figures accounted in the previous two years.
Danny McPherson, chief security officer for Arbor Networks noted that despite the ability of ISPs to identify this kind of attack, various providers are still deficient in mollifying DDos or brute force attack. McPherson added, "Even fewer providers have the infrastructure to defend against attacks at this year's reported peak of 40Gbps. This is an area of weakness that can be exploited quickly."
Arbor Networks also reported that a boost in the number of smaller and more urbane attacks is seen which are a bit more complex that larger brute force attacks.
