Majority of Tweets are Useless, Research Says

According to research firm Pear Analytics, majority of updates posted in Twitter are useless.  The company said around 40.55 percent of tweets are "pointless babble."

Twitter has soared to the top 5 social networking sites in terms of popularity. However, the website has been continuously slammed for posting worthless updates from its users.

"A while back, we embarked on a study that evolved afte having a debate in the office as to how people are using and consuming Twitter,” Pear Analytics founder and CEO Ryan Kelly explained.

"Some felt it was their source of news and articles, others felt it was just a bunch of self-promotion with very few folks actually paying attention. But mostly, many people still perceive Twitter as just mindless babble of people telling you what they are doing minute-by-minute; as if you care they are eating a sandwich at the moment,” Kelly added.

The study showed that only 8.7 percent of tweets are valuable information, and 37.55 percent are conversational.
