IT Experts Anticipate Boost in Expenditures in 2009

An online survey conducted by Infosecurity Europe revealed that most security experts look ahead to a swelled IT spending this year, accounting to 55 percent of the respondents. Only two percent believe spending decline will be seen in 2009.

Of those who expect reductions, around 69 percent said the cutbacks will most probably be major. Another 20 percent see a surge in the entire IT expenditures and 10 percent don’t think they will see changes this year.

Eric Domage, research analyst at IDC, said, "Spending on information security will continue to grow driven by the increase in security threats and the fact that many organisations are still in catch up mode.”

IDC said a growth of seven percent on information security tools revenue is possible since users are more concerned about keeping their personal data safe.

"These are all new areas that many organisations are still getting to grips with,” Domage said.
