Internet Users Worry About Data Privacy

Most of web users are concerned about their data privacy, research says. Of the 4000 adults surveyed, around 80 percent admit they worry much about their private information being breached by online thugs.

The survey was facilitated by Burst Media, an advertising company, on December 2008. Results revealed that 75 percent of web users know they are being tracked every time they use the internet. In addition, about 80 percent disapprove of having their privacy violated.

Chuck Moran, Burst Media marketing vice president said, "Advertisers must take concrete actions to mitigate consumers' privacy concerns and at the same time continue to deliver the message as effectively as possible."

Moran added publishers must be entirely straightforward when it comes to their privacy policies and conditions. They have to ensure that users have a clear understanding on their terms of services to avoid possible protests about any changes that may take effect in the future.
