Internet "Black Boxes" To Log Web Activities

Based on a report made by Telegraph, the British government is considering the idea of monitoring internet traffic with the use of internet black boxes. These black boxes record every email and website visit of British computer users before being transmitted to a central database.

The move is part of the government's plan to have the ability to evaluate telephone calls as well as internet activities made across the UK. This, however, set off criticisms from various groups advocating on media privacy.

The proposal, dubbed as Government's Interception Modernisation Programme (IMP), is slated for consultation by 2009, as part of the new Communications Data Bill. Home Office officials noted that the database project is yet to be verified and details are still being outlined.
