HSBC Employs Biometrics To Secure Data
HSBC is currently using a state-of-the-art biometric technology capable of idnetifying 2,500 distinct features to manage access to its datacenters. The system utilizes cameras, ID, and software to confirm identification.Data therft has been the bane of many business organizations, and the use of biometrics is aimed to impede its proliferation. The technology is presented by OmniPerception, and HSBC is the very first bank to use such system.
According to Bob McDowall, analyst at Towergroup, biometrics will trim down cases of fraud; however banks will have a grueling time controlling its use. The technology deploys a range of algorithms that monitors around 2,500 parameters on the face. Users in datacenters will be able to gain access to precise areas trough entering a secure pin, or waving an RFID tag to be identified by the system. Faces are then checked to verify authenticty of the tag or pin being presented.
